World No Tobacco Day celebrated at Community Health Centre, Raipur Rani

World No Tobacco Day was organised jointly by Dr. Harashish Jindal and Dr. Nikita Sharma from Department of Community Medicine, PGIMER Chandigarh and Dr. Sanjeev Goel, SMO, Community Health Centre, Raipur Rani. The theme for this year was Tobacco and heart disease. A poster making competition was organized at Government middle school, village Dhundharlu among students of class 6-8.

Dr. Anil Garg, MO said that tobacco causes cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and lung cancer. It is very harmful for young children to be exposed to passive smoking. Dr. Monika, Dental surgeon said that chewing tobacco causes oral cancer. It is important for people who chew tobacco to undergo regular screening for preventing oral cancer. Dr. Sanjeev goel, SMO, said that government has enacted many laws to prevent public smoking. He motivated people to stop smoking and mentioned the helpline no. 1800227787. Dr. Harashish Jindal, SR Pgimer talked regarding the importance of world no tobacco day. He said that psychiatrics from PGIMER, visit CHC Raipur Rani every Tuesday and can help in deaddiction of patients. Prizes were distributed to the winners of poster making competition.
