New Delhi, March 5: Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya who quit the Shiromani Akali Dal on Monday joined the Congress in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi here on Tuesday.

Also present were AICC in charge for Punjab Asha Kumari and Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar.

Ghubaya quit the SAD on Monday ending months of speculation about the timing of his entry into the Congress.

Ghubaya is likely to bag the Congress ticket from Ferozepur where the party has minister Rana Sodhi and his son among ticket applicants.

Ferozepur is key to the Congress scheme of things amid talks that SAD could field its president Sukhbir Badal from here this time.

The preliminary signals on tickets will be clear on March 10 when the first screening for the Punjab Congress candidates happens in Delhi.
