The victim who was shot dead has been identified as Vishal Chhillar, a native of Rewari, Haryana, while the injured are Pankaj, Ashish and Meghal, who received blunt injuries.Sources said Vishal, a former student of DAV College, Sector 10, had arrived in the city to celebrate his selection in the Haryana Police. Vishal threw a party for his friends at the CHB flat. There were a few other people in the flat at the time of the incident.
The sources said the suspects were aware that Vishal was in the flat following which they arrived there around 6.50 am.
One of the persons, who was inside the flat at the time of the incident, said two of the suspects were carrying pistols, while the remaining were armed with sharp weapons.
The miscreants shot Vishal, while the remaining three victims were attacked with sharp weapons.
The police received information about the incident around 7 am. They took the injured to the GMCH-32, while Vishal was rushed to the PGI, where doctors declared him brought dead.
A team of the CFSL also visited the spot.
The police said all suspects had been identified and a murder case registered against them at the Sector 49 police station. “Police teams are conducting raids in neighbouring states to nab the suspects,” the police said.
Flats rented out sans police verification
Residents of CHB Colony, Sector 49, claimed that many flats in the colony had been rented out to youths by flat owners without getting the mandatory police verification done. “Youngsters disturbing other residents by causing noise pollution is common,” said a resident.
Police visited flat twice on Tuesday night
The police had visited the flat twice on Tuesday night following a complaint of noise pollution by residents. The police asked all persons at the flat to maintain peace and left after issuing them a warning.
Suspects believed to be members of INSO
In college, Vishal was a member of the Hindustan Student Association (HSA). He later left the HSA and joined INSO. Vishal remained the president of INSO at DAV College. Vishal later had some issue with INSO members after which he started staying with members of the HSA. A few days ago, he also had a fight with the suspects, who are said to be INSO members.
SUV vandalised, police see a link
An SUV (in pic) parked outside a house in Sector 15 was also vandalised by a few youths on Tuesday evening. Sources said four youths arrived and smashed the windscreen and windowpanes of the Fortuner, owned by a youth hailing from Haryana. The police suspect the incident has some link with the dispute between the two groups.
Power struggle behind crime?
The UT police suspect a dispute over power struggle in a student outfit at DAV College is behind the incident.
Sources said Vishal had a dispute with Sudeep Pahal, one of the suspects, over the control of student outfit INSO at DAV College. The rivalry between Vishal and Sudeep turned ugly in the past few months.
CCTV footage shows i20 car, six youths
The police have scrutinised the footage of CCTV cameras installed outside flats. A white i20 car and six youths running towards the car after committing the crime have been recorded in one of the cameras installed outside a flat a few blocks away from the flat where the incident took place.
Victim shot in the chest, stomach
The victim, Vishal Chhillar, was shot in his chest and stomach. The police said it was yet to be confirmed as to how many bullets were fired at the victim.
