Chandigarh March 8: Continuing with its populist decisions ahead of the parliamentary and vidhan sabha elections this year, the Manohar Lal Khattar government today provided major relief to marginal farmers and other economically weaker sections by waiving Rs 2,000 stamp duty on loan agreements besides including five tribes in the denotified tribes’ category.

A meeting of the Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar took a decision on remitting Rs 2,000 stamp duty on various types of agreements currently charged under the Indian Stamp Act, 1899.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved the inclusion of nomadic tribes, including Jogi, Jangam, Bhat, Reawari and Madari, in to the category of denotified tribes. “Their inclusion in the denotified tribes’ category would make them eligible for a host of government benefits, including housing, social security benefits and PDS and Aadhar cards,” said Rajiv Jain, CM’s Media Adviser, who headed the committee for socio-economic uplift of these tribes.

According to the new decision, the stamp duty will be remitted for small and marginal farmers for taking a loan up to Rs 1.60 lakh, women beneficiaries sponsored to banks by the Haryana Women Development Corporation under their schemes of making women self-reliant, EWS beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and the National Urban Livelihood Mission and the BPL beneficiaries sponsored by the Haryana Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation for loans to banks.
