Dr Seema Rathi, a postgraduate student from the Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGIMER, Chandigarh was awarded the first prize for the best poster presentation in the just concluded 21st Annual Conference of Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology held at Goa. She was presented this award for the work titled ‘Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) in difficult situations’. This research was carried out jointly in the departments of Radiodiagnosis and Gastroenterology. PTBD is a method of percutaneous drainage of an obstructed biliary system in patients who present with jaundice with or without fever. PTBD is performed by an interventional radiologist under local anesthesia. Endoscopic drainage or ERCP is the alternative method of drainage of the biliary system which is practiced by a gastroenterologist.
Dr Seema was also given the most attentive attendee award at the conference. ‘This award was based on the number of lectures attended by the student delegate and the evaluation of the feedback forms of each lecture which was filled by the delegate’ said Dr MS Sandhu, Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis.
