India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been charged with non-bailable offences by Kolkata Police as they submitted a chargesheet against the India player before the Alipore police court. In the chargesheet, Shami has been charged under sections 498A (dowry harassment) and 354A (sexual harassment).
Shami has had a long-standing case with his wife Hasin Jahan after the latter first came out with screenshots of his alleged affair on social media.
Shami last played for India in the just-concluded ODI series against Australia, where he picked five wickets in four matches.

Shami and Hasin Jahan’s bitter spat came into light on March 7 last year when she exposed his alleged extra-marital affair. Shami then went on to accuse that that was all a conspiracy to ruin his career.
Hasin Jahan had even levelled match fixing accusations against Shami following which he was omitted from the central contracts list by the BCCI pending investigations.
BCCI therefore completed their internal investigation on match fixing accusations and gave him a clean chit and reinstated his central contract. According to the latest central contracts list, Shami has been given a Grade A contract (Rs 5 lakh).
Hasin Jahan then levelled further accusations against Shami and his family accusing the cricketer of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Shami, however, maintained that Jahan’s accusations were baseless.
Jahan lodged a police case at the Kolkata police headquarters in Lal Bazaar on March 8, 2018, accusing him of torture, physical abuse and mental harassment.
Amidst the battle on the personal front, Shami’s performances on the cricketing field had suffered too.
He was even left out of the Afghanistan Test for being unfit. However, Shami has come back to form since the past few months and has made his way back into the Test and ODI setup.
