Gurugram: All prepared to bid adieu to Bhondsi once and for all after the murderous Holi assault, a migrant minority family has deferred its decision to leave for now and would even open up its shop following an assurance of safety from neighbours and the police.
A mob of more than 20 had allegedly beaten up the family on Holi following an altercation over playing cricket.
As pictures of the family packing belongings went viral, the residents of Dhumaspur in Bhondsi urged them to stay put.
“We can’t become a national shame after having co-existed here for generations. The accused belong to another village and they took the playfield argument too far. The family is scared… After the entire locality came out in support, they decided to stay back,” said a neighbour.
The family members claimed despite having been provided security, they felt insecure. “We can still see suspicious people roaming around our house. We were first attacked and then a false FIR was lodged against us… They (attackers) belong to the majority community and enjoy immense support. We are staying for now but will take the final call within a few days,” said Mohd Dilshaad, a complainant in the case.
It was yesterday that a cross-FIR was registered against the family on the basis of a statement by 18-year-old Rajkumar of Naya-gaon village. He alleged he and one Mahesh were returning to Nayagaon, 1.5 km from Dhumaspur, when a cricket ball hit them. When they objected, one of the players from the family slapped him, which triggered violence, he alleged.
