Chandigarh, March 31: Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Rao today approved the recommendation of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, seeking removal of a post by Bhagwant Mann Fan Club on Facebook with the title “EVM tampering expose in Delhi Assembly”.

The post quoted a news channel report in connection with the Delhi Assembly polls in 2015. It read “AAP demonstrates how EVMs can be rigged”. The post, a video clip, asks the voters to watch and share how EVMs could be hacked.

The decision of the CEO office will be forwarded to the Election Commission (EC) through the nodal officer of the state posted there. The controversial post is likely to be pulled down by tomorrow, official sources said.

The social media monitoring team of the CEO had recommended that the video was being used by Facebook users on their timeline for general communication and it might damage the credibility of the EVMs, besides creating doubts regarding the fair working of the EC.

As per the state election office, it is suggested to direct Facebook to immediately remove this video from Bhagwant Mann Fan Club page.

Dr Raju said, “When all concerns regarding the possible hacking of the EVMs have been addressed well before the poll process commenced, there is no scope for allowing baseless rumours with the potential to mislead voters.”

Manjit Singh Sidhu, AAP media incharge, said, “There are hundreds of fan clubs that support our party and leaders. These are their views, not ours. I am sure other politicians must be facing similar situation.”
