Kaithal, April 1: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said the Nehru-Gandhi family had given the slogan “garibi hatao”, but could not do so. He claimed that the number of poor had increased despite their slogan as they did nothing concrete to remove poverty.

He said this while addressing a “vijay sankalp” rally in Siwan village, 10 km from here. He said Rahul Gandhi was trying to mislead the people by giving the same slogan, but would not succeed as people would give his party a befitting reply in the Lok Sabha poll.

He said the country was safe in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had given a free hand to security forces to deal with terrorists and other anti-national elements. He claimed that terrorists were in panic and fear of the forces as they were facing bullets and failing in their designs.

He claimed that the Prime Minister was playing an important role in the international sphere and the voice of India was now being heard the world over with respect. He said countries had extended support to India in the Security Council and other platforms and this had added to the dignity of the nation.

He said the government had taken a number of steps to uplift the economic condition of the people, including the poor and farmers. He asserted that many public welfare schemes had been introduced by the NDA government.

Meanwhile, addressing the BJP’s “vijay sankalp” rally in Gurugram, Khattar said what made their team unique was their commitment to public welfare rather than any person or ideology. “Opposition parties are relentlessly criticising us, but seeing such gatherings, I don’t feel the need to issue any clarification. We have our achievements to highlight and plans to discuss,” he said.

“These parties have nothing concrete to say so criticism is their agenda for the campaigning. It will not lead them anywhere,” he asserted.

“We will not talk about what others have not done or how they have failed. We will seek your vote with confidence in what we have done and are trying to achieve,” said Khattar. “Every resident, be it soldier, farmer, teacher, housewife or unemployed, knows that we fulfilled the dreams lying pending for decades,” he claimed.
