The party brass flanking Anbumani Ramadoss stood with folded hands and grinned, watching a crowd in Kancheepuram cheer as his words sunk in.

“Should it be said openly? You’ve understood, right?” the Pattali Makkal Katchi leader told the gathering. He spoke in Tamil.

And what were they supposed to understand? Well, read the preceding words words yourself.

“What will happen in the booth?” Ramadoss asked, before answering himself: “Only we will be there in the booth”.

“Do you understand what I’m saying or not? Only we’ll be there. Only we’ll be there. Then what?”

Ramadoss, who is the PMK’s lone Lok Sabha MP, was campaigning for a candidate from the AIADMK: Maragatham Kumaravel.

Both the AIADMK and PMK have joined the BJP’s National Democratic alliance to take on the influential opposition DMK party, which is a Congress ally.

So, did Anbumani Ramadoss boast in Kancheepuram that the NDA would capture a booth?

Kancheepuram is one of Tamil Nadu’s 39 parliamentary constituencies.

All of them will go to the polls on April 18.
