Srinagar : The University of Kashmir has bagged 53rd position among the universities assessed in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2019.
The results were announced by the ministry of humam resource development (MHRD) on Monday.
The varsity has also bagged an overall ranking of 74 among all the institutions (including universities, IITs etc.) assessed by the MHRD under NIRF, the results published on the NIRF website reveal.
Last year, the Kashmir University had bagged 47th rank among the universities and 71 among all the institutions.
“Last year it was not mandatory for every institution to apply for NIRF ranking and all the institutions were not in competition. This year all the Universities and other other IITs had applied for NIRF ranking,” registrar Kashmir University said.
Last year, MHRD minister, Prakash Javadekar had said that it would be mandatory for public institutes to participate in the ranking framework from 2019.
“Those public institutions which will not take part in it will face fund cut,” he had said.
Jammu University which was last year accorded the autonomous status by the MHRD has got 74th rank among all the universities. However, Jammu University doesn’t figure in overall rankings list of all institutions.
