A minor girl and an elderly man died and three others were critically injured on Tuesday when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell 150 ft downhill near Khelleni in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Eyewitnesses said a car on way to Kishtwar from Jammu met with an accident at Khelleni, 10 kms from Doda on Batote-Kishtwar highway.

The deceased were identified as Liyaqat Kamal (70) son of Ghulam Ali and Tabish Bano (10) daughter of Irshad Ahmed, a resident of Kishtwar.

The injured were identified as Nuzhat Begum (45) wife of Irshad Ahmed, her daughters Zainab Bano (7) and Baby (3) – all residents of Kishtwar.

SP Doda Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that all the five passengers were shifted them to District Hospital Doda.

He said that doctors declared two passengers as brought dead while three critically injured are under treatment at the district hospital.

“Perhaps the driver was tired due to lack of sleep. He lost control at a sharp curve resulting in the fatal accident,” the SP said.

The officer said the deceased and the injured belonged to the same family.
