Early this week, Shah Rukh Khan fans were in for a shock when rumours of Ranveer Singh replacing the actor in Don 3 spread like wildfire. Buzz had it that Shah Rukh Khan has opted out of the third instalment of Don franchise, and the makers are now keen to rope in Ranveer Singh for the lead role on Zoya Akhtar’s behest. However, the Gully Boy director has rubbished the rumours saying that there is no truth to it.
According to a report on a portal, Zoya Akhtar was recently asked if she is collaborating with Ranveer Singh for Don 3. To which, the filmmaker replied, “No, no. That’s absolute nonsense.”
She was further questioned on the status of Don 3, as the film has been in the pipeline for a long time. “Na toh main Farhan Akhtar hoon, nahi main Shah Rukh Khan ya Ritesh Sidhwani hoon (Neither am I Farhan Akhtar, nor am I Shah Rukh Khan or Ritesh Sidhwani),” said Zoya.
It was in 2006 that Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar joined hands for a remake of the iconic film Don. If the original attained a cult status in the past few decades, the remake, too, gained the love and appreciation of millennials. Such has been the craze that Akhtar had to turn his Don into a franchise. And now two instalments later, the fans are waiting eagerly for Don 3.
Earlier, producer Ritesh Sidhwani told a daily that they have started working on the script of Don 3. “We are still working on it and don’t know when it will happen. It’s a keenly awaited franchise and we can’t disappoint the fans,” the producer said earlier.
After the debacle of Zero, Shah Rukh Khan has apparently not signed any other film. And the 53-year-old actor is taking his time to give a nod to any script.
