Election Preparedness for Anantnag PC reviewed

ANANTNAG, APRIL 10: The Returning Officer (RO) for Anantnag Parliamentary (PC) Constituency Khalid Jahangir today reviewed the preparedness for general Elections 2019 in presence of General Observers, Police Observers, and Expenditure Observers here at a meeting.

The meeting was also attended by DIG South Kashmir, District Elections Officers and SSPs of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, and Awantipora. All the Assistant Returning Officers of Anantnag PC were also present in the meeting.

The Returning Officer informed the meeting about the preparedness for the conduct of general elections 2019 in the PC where 18 candidates are in the fray. The elections for Anantnag PC will be held in three phases, – for Anantnag district on 23 April 2019 for Kulgam district on 29 April 2019 and for Pulwama and Shopian districts on May 6 2019.

The RO informed the meeting that the necessary training has been imparted to polling staff, while assistance for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters like wheelchairs, ramps and seating arrangements, provision of transportation   have been put in place. He said that measures have been taken to make available Assured Minimum Facilities at all polling stations. He added that Model polling stations and webcasting of 10% of polling stations will be ensured.

“Assembly Constituency wise dispatch/collection, strong rooms and counting centres have also been identified with all facilities in place” he informed and added that several teams have been constituted to monitor Modal Code of Conduct violations and expenditure monitoring. 

The Observers asked for finalizing polling station list and stressed that all protocols be adhered with regard to the storage and transportation of Electronic Voting Machines and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail.

The observers impressed upon the officers to work in coordination and added zeal to ensure smooth conduct of free, fair and transparent elections.
