Jammu: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took a jibe at the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Twitter on Tuesday(April 16).
Mehbooba Mufti, who was campaigning for the People’s Democratic Party in south Kashmir on Monday (April 15) told her party workers, “I did chowkidari for you. I saved you from clutches of Ikhwan, why are your spirits not high today?”
Omar Abdullah has responded to the former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti saying that her choice of words was not good enough considering the present circumstances.
Abdullah was referring to the term ‘chowkidar’ which has been at the centre of much political debate recently. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling himself a chowkidar (guard) of the nation, the word has gained a new significance in campaign speeches across the political spectrum.
PM Modi had also recently hit out at both the prime political families in Jammu and Kashmir — the Muftis and the Abdullahs, in a campaign speech. “I won’t allow Abdullahs and Muftis to divide this nation. I will stand like a wall before the forces who want to break India. Let me make it clear to Abdullahs and Muftis that I’m Modi. I’m non-corrupt, I’m not afraid of anyone, I can’t be cowed down,” he said at a rally in Kathua district.
Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti had slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the comments he made about their respective parties and families earlier in the day. Both had shared photos of PM Modi greeting members of the Abdullah and Mufti clan.
