New Delhi, April 19:Congress media cell convenor Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday tendered her resignation days after she accused the party of siding with “lumpen elements” in UP organisation.
The resignation comes close on the heels of Chaturvedi accusing the Congress of going soft on a group of Uttar Pradesh leaders who misbehaved with her and hurled derogatory references at her during a recent press conference she addressed in Lucknow.
This set of leaders who allegedly made sexist remarks at Chaturvedi were first suspended by the Congress and then swiftly reinstated.
Chaturvedi recently took to Twitter to express her disappointment at the Congress deciding to stand by “lumpen elements” rather than someone who have her sweat and blood for the party.
An upcoming leader in Congress, Chaturvedi rose through ranks faster than many others in the Congress media department.
She was in charge of Congress media strategy in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Assembly polls there. The party had won the election.
Chaturvedi is rumoured to be joining the Shiv Sena.
She was earlier miffed at the Congress for ignoring her claim to a Lok Sabha ticket from Mumbai. The party instead offered that same nomination to actor Urmila Matondkar.
Chaturvedi’s exit on LS poll eve could pose a potential embarrassment for the Congress, which is fighting a tough electoral battle with the BJP.
She had tweeted: “Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get prefence in @incindia over those who have given their sweat&blood. Having faced brickbats&abuse across board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate”.
