Bhaderwah April 22 : On the occasion of World Earth Day, Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu organized an expert lecture today on ‘Trash or Resource: The Story of Electronic Waste’. Dr. Anwesha Borthakur, Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, KU Leuven, University of Belgium was the key speaker. Dr. Borthakur in her talk apprised the audience about the characteristics and composition of e-waste; quantum of generation; environmental and social implications; management, handling and disposal in the Indian context. Besides highlighting the issues and challenges being faced by the developing countries in tackling these wastes, she proposed different models for effective e-waste management at local / institutional levels. The presentation was followed by a open house discussion and personal interactions with the resource person. The event was attended by Incharge heads, faculty members, invited guests, non-teaching staff members, researchers and students from all streams of Bhaderwah Campus.
Earlier Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Incharge Head, Institute of Mountain Environment welcomed the guests and introduced the theme. He informed the audience that a dedicated e-waste collection facility will be installed at IME for proper collection and disposal of e-waste generated in the campus. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sharma.
