Jammu, April 29:About 64 per cent of militancy-displaced Kashmiri ‘migrant’ voters exercised their franchise in the phase II of the polling for the Anantnag parliamentary constituency in Jammu. Of the 2,779 registered voters, 1,784, whose M-Forms were approved by the Election Commission, voted.Although the voting percentage in the four Assembly segments of Kulgam, Noorabad, Hom Shalibugh and Devsar remained low, there was an enthusiasm among migrant voters living in Jammu.
According to Returning Officer, Migrants, Pankaj Anand, 939 men and 845 women reached the special polling stations established in Jammu. At Udhampur, of the 89 registered migrant voters, 32 cast their votes.“This segment of the parliamentary seat has a few displaced Pandit voters. The entire process was peaceful. Now we have only the last phase of the polling left,” said the Returning Officer.
However, there were reports that some migrants were not allowed to vote as their names were missing from the electoral list. It has happened in the previous phases also.
“We hope our votes will ensure the win of the candidate who will consider our issues and become our voice. Our votes are very less but we performed our duty to strengthen the democracy,” said Sanjay Kumar, hailing from Kulgam.
