Khattar camps in Karnal, seeks votes on development

Karnal, May 3:Spicing up the Lok Sabha election campaign, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar camped in the city, seeking votes in favour of Karnal candidate Sanjay Bhatia.

He addressed five public meetings in the constituency and one closed-door meeting with prominent persons of the city, urging them to vote for Bhatia. The CM will also hold three public meetings and one roadshow on Saturday in four Assembly segments – Gharaunda, Kunjpura in Indri, Taraori in Nilokheri and roadshow in Assandh.Addressing a gathering at Kachwa village, the CM exhorted the electorate to vote for the BJP to eradicate poverty and terrorism from the country, besides development.

“The PM has given a freehand to the security forces to eradicate terrorism from the country, while the Congress is playing with the national security,” he added.

Listing the achievements of the Union government, Khattar said it had taken several steps to eradicate poverty. Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Ujjwala, Housing for all by 2022, crop insurance and sure income for farmers were some key initiatives taken by the government.

Claiming that his government took steps to give jobs to the youth on merit, Khattar said, “We have brought transparency in the government. We have abolished the system of nepotism and corruption in jobs.”

Praising Bhatia, the CM said, “I know Bhatia since 1990. In 1999, we had a coalition government in Haryana with the INLD and OP Chautala was the CM.”

Refutes Congress nominee allegation

Reacting to the allegations levelled by Congress candidate Kuldeep Sharma that the BJP collected Rs 18 crore from traders by threatening them, the CM said nobody had been threatened by the BJP. The amount had been collected through proper channel via cheque. “The BJP did not force anyone to give funds for the party, but on our appeal people voluntarily contributed. However, the amount is not so much as Sharma had alleged,” said the CM. 

App to guide voters

Chandigarh: Chief Electoral Officer Rajeev Ranjan said here on Friday that the Election Commission has launched Vote Assistant app on the pattern of Google Assistant for the facility of voters of the state. With the help of this app, the voters would get information related to their polling booth, name in the voters list, voter serial number and information related to candidates.
