Kharar, May 5: Morinda-based Harjeet Singh Kang, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Urban), Morinda, and three members of his family were killed in a mishap near Garangan village on the Kharar-Bassi Pathana road this afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Harjeet Singh Kang, his wife Kuldeep Kaur, president of the Istri Akali Dal, Morinda, his daughter-in-law Navneet Kaur and his granddaughter Ibadat Kaur.
Gharuan SHO Amanpreet Kaur Brar and ASI Channa Ram said the family was returning to Morinda around 4 pm after attending a wedding at a nearby marriage palace. As soon as their car (PB 12 T 0920) reached near Garangan village, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a water body on the roadside and got submerged.People gathered at the spot and the car was pulled out, but by that time, the four had died.
The ASI said the body of Ibadat Kaur (12) had been sent to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, whereas the other three bodies had been kept at the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib. The postmortem will be conduced tomorrow.
The family was residing at Morinda. Tejpal Singh, son of deceased Harjeet Singh Kang, works in Pune. He lost four members of his family — father, mother, wife and daughter — in the mishap.
