New Delhi,May 6 : BJP candidate from Amethi, Smriti Irani, on Monday shared a video on Twitter and accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of “booth capturing” in his home constituency of Amethi during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Tagging the Election Commission of India (EC), Irani tweeted a video in which an elderly woman admitted that she was forced to cast her vote for Congress.
The video was allegedly recorded on Monday at polling booth 316 in Gujar Tola village in Gauriganj town in Amethi.
In the video, the woman claimed the presiding officer of the particular booth forcibly grabbed her hand and put in on the Congress’s Hand symbol. The woman said she wanted to vote for the BJP (Lotus symbol) but was not allowed.
After alerting the EC about the misconduct, Smriti Irani said, “I tweeted an alert to administration and EC (alleging booth capturing in Amethi), hope they take action. People of the country have to decide whether this kind of politics of Rahul Gandhi should be punished or not.”
Earlier in the day, Smriti Irani attacked both Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for misusing political power in Amethi.
Slamming Rahul Gandhi, she said a person died after he was denied treatment at an Amethi hospital, where the Congress president is a trustee. She went on to say that the person was left to die just because he had an Ayushman Bharat card.
Calling the Gandhi family “disgusting”, Irani held the Congress party responsible for the death of the patient.
“It’s not about people for Rahul Gandhi, it’s all about him and his family,” the Union minister added.
The BJP leader also mocked Priyanka Gandhi for constantly lashing out at her.
“She did not know my name 5 years back, now she keeps taking my name, such an accomplishment. Nowadays she takes her husband’s (Robert Vadra) name less and my name more,” she said.
