Srinagar, May 14 : Public life in south Kashmir was thrown out of gear on Tuesday in view of shutdown called by the transporters union against the imposition of toll tax.

The protesting transporters are seeking exemption of toll tax for Kashmir vehicles at Kai-Chachkoot toll plaza near Awantipora in Pulwama district.

Reports said that due to the transporters strike the locals faced tremendous hardships in reaching their respective offices.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has assured that the locals will be exempted from tax and said that the administration has already taken up the matter with the central government but due to ongoing election process that order of tax revocation has got delayed.
