Gurugram, May 30:The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in collaboration with the Gurugram police, has nabbed two Mewat men possessing fake currency of Rs 1.2 crore face value.

The duo identified as Quasim (44) and Wasim (20) were caught from Sohna road where they had gone to sell these notes to buyers. The NIA got a tip-off and nabbed them late last night. Sources claim that NIA is probing the terror funding angle as the ink used to print the currency had been sourced from Pakistan.

According to a senior investigator, the duo claimed that they had no links with any gang or outfit and produced the notes at their home in Singar village in district Nuh (Mewat). During interrogation, the duo revealed that they designed Rs 2,000 notes on their laptop and used their scanner and printer to print it.

They claimed they had come to Gurugram to sell the currency for Rs 40 lakh to a buyer who is absconding. An FIR has been registered at Sadar police station against the duo under Sections 489-A (counterfeiting currency notes) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

“We were to sell the notes for Rs 40 lakh and deal was to be carried out on the road. We were waiting for the buyer,” the accused reportedly told the investigators. The NIA is not only searching for this buyer but also trying to find others who bought fake notes from the duo. They have confessed to printing fake currency for the past six months. The accused have been taken on seven-day police remand.
