District Development Commissioner convenes meeting for preparation of Water Conservation Plan

KATHUA, JUNE 14: District Development Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, today chaired a meeting for preparation of Water Security and Conservation Plan.

The meeting among others was attended by ADDC, Dr. Shubhra Sharma, SE Hydraulic, Suresh Sabharwal, CPO, Uttam Singh, ACD, Sukhpal Singh, CEO, Prem Nath, Executive Engineers of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, PO IWMP, Officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest & Soil Conservation.

DDC emphasized that the objective of the water security plan is to provide safe drinking water to the public on a sustainable basis while implementing measures to conserve, protect, enhance and manage ground water resources in a sustainable manner besides sensitization and capacity buildings of all stake holders.

In view of the fact that district Kathua experiences water scarcity in Kandi belt during summer season, he emphasized for formulating water security plan and water conservation plan.  The stake holder departments were asked to conduct field survey and formulate the proposals for check dams, water harvesting structures, renovation of water bodies, dug wells etc. The PHE department was directed to activate the village water and sanitation committees and provide them handholding for preparing village level water security programme.

The DC emphasized for conserving the rain water in upcoming monsoon season to enable its optimum utilization. He asked the line departments to prepare district level action plan for water security and water conservation within a week`s time.  Besides, he also stressed upon training of PRIs with the aim to sensitize them on the importance of water conservation and its judicious use for sustainable water management.
