Ludhiana, June 27:Several people were injured as a clash broke out at Central Jail on Tajpur Road here on Thursday.
To control the situation, police opened fire in the air. The firing was on when the reports last came in.It was learnt that an undertrial had died. But the police did not confirm it.
Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has reached the jail premises.Heavy security has been deployed around the jail and fire tenders sent to the spot.It was learnt that a few prisoners also escaped from the jail; one of them was later arrested. The jail siren was being blown continuously at the time of writing this report.
Officials refused to comment.
