Chandigarh, June 28: A 22-year-old youth, a native of Punjab, and a minor girl, who had escaped from her house in Karnataka along with the youth, took poison at Sukhna Lake this morning. The duo was rushed to the hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable. The police said information regarding the incident was received at 6.05 pm.
Sources said Satbir Singh, PA to Rajiv Jain, media adviser to the Chief Minister, Haryana, was having a morning walk when he saw the couple lying at Sukhna Lake. He rushed them to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, and also informed the police. Later, they were referred to the PGI.
The boy is a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district of Punjab. The girl, aged around 17, is a native of Gulbarga district in Karnataka. The police said the boy and the girl had become friends on Facebook around a year ago. The duo started chatting with each other and reportedly fell in love.
The boy visited Karnataka around two weeks ago after which the girl eloped with him and they came to Haryana. Both of them stayed at Mandi Ateli, Rewari.
The girl’s family informed the local police in Karnataka following which cops, along with the girl’s parents, raided the boy’s house in Punjab.
He came to know about it. He, along with the girl, left Rewari and reached Chandigarh this morning.
They went to Sukhna Lake and took poison in milk cake. Suicide notes were recovered from the boy and the girl, mentioning that they were going to take the extreme step on their own.
A case under Section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage) of the IPC has been already registered against the boy in Karnataka.
They became friends on Facebook
