Srinagar, June 30:A couple of weeks ago, national award-winning actress Zaira Wasim (18) was seen partying with Priyanka Chopra as they completed shooting for ‘The Sky is Pink’. Today, she shocked her fans by announcing she was quitting films. The actress from Srinagar, who got noticed in Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ and won the Filmfare Critics Award (Best Actress) for ‘Secret Superstar’, was battling depression for over four years.
She has now found solace in religion and decided to quit acting, saying her field of work was interfering with her faith.
“As I complete five years today, I want to confess I am not truly happy with this identity i.e. my line of work. For a very long time now, it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else… This field indeed brought a lot of love, support and applause, but what it also did was to lead me to a path of ignorance, as I silently and unconsciously transitioned out of imaan (faith),” she wrote on her Facebook post, quoting the Quran.
Zaira had written about her depression last month. “I just need a complete break from everything, my social life, my work, school and especially social media,” she had said.
‘Find peace in quran’
While I continued to work in an environment that interfered with my imaan, my relationship with my religion was threatened… In the great and divine wisdom of the Quran, I found sufficiency, peace. Zaira Wasim
