Mumbai, July 1: Zaira Wasim make her debut in Bollywood with Aamir Khan’s Dangal. In the film, which was released in 2016, Zaira played the younger version of wrestler Geeta Phogat. She garnered a lot of praises and awards for her role in the film, including National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Yesterday, June 30, Zaira announced her “disassociation” from the field of acting, saying she was not happy with the line of work as it interfered with her faith and religion.

In a recent interview with Mid Day when Nitesh Tiwari, director of Dangal, was asked for his reaction on Zaira’s decision to quit films, he said, “I read about it in this afternoon, and it came as a shock to me. This was unexpected, but at the end of the day, it is her life and she has the right to lead it the way she [deems fit].”

In the interview, Nitesh recalled the time he was impressed with Zaira’s performance at Dangal auditions. He said, “She was chosen for reasons best known to all of us. There’s a sense of loss because Zaira is an extremely talented actress.”

Zaira revealed that she was suffering from depression on social media last year. When Nitesh was asked if he was in contact with the actress during that time, he said, “Zaira and I lost touch post Dangal. We briefly met during award shows. Her reasons are best known to her. She must have thought about it and taken the step. None of us has the right to pass judgment on what she has decided.”
