Chandigarh, July 3: Thieves struck at two bakery shops and made an unsuccessful bid to commit theft a chemist shop in Sector 22, hardly 50 meters away from the police post, on the intervening night of July 2 and 3.
Around three thieves were captured in the CCTV cameras while committing the crime.
The miscreants targeted the bakery shops, named together as Harpreet General Store and Confectionaries.
Bakery owner Harpreet Singh said the theft incident came to light in the morning following which the police were informed. The suspects managed to break open the locks and steal cash from both shops.
“Around Rs 10,000 in cash was stolen from the shops,” he said. Harpreet further said while leaving, the thieves switched off the fridge in which bakery products were stored, further leading to a loss of products worth around Rs 5,000.
“One cannot enter the shop without taking out fridges. It is surprising that they moved the fridges out of the shop still nobody noticed them,” he said.
The thieves also attempted to break-in to a chemist shop. However, they could not break the centre shutter lock.
Interestingly, the shops are close to the police post in Sector 22 and hardly a few meters away from the jewellery market. Still the thieves managed to strike at the shops.
The police have taken the CCTV footage into their possession which is being scrutinised. An investigation has been initiated at the Sector 17 police station.
