Chandigarh, July 4: Overwhelmed by emotions on the return of her only son Ankit (20) after two months and nine days in captivity of pirates in Nigeria, Usha Hooda (43) doesn’t ever want her son to go back to a ship again.
She dreads desertions ever since her drunkard husband stranded her. He left home 10 years ago and never returned.
“I don’t want this to happen with my son now,” said Usha, a teacher at a private school in her village Assan in Rohtak district. Usha’s only son Ankit was one of the five Indian seafarers who were kidnapped by pirates on April 19 from vessel AT Apecus, where he was working as ordinary seaman in Nigeria.
Ankit landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Wednesday from Mumbai, where the five seafarers arrived on Monday after their release from captivity of Nigerian pirates on June 27.
“I cannot explain in words how happy I am today after meeting Ankit. Only I know how I spent the last two months and nine days under constant fear of the worst,” she said. She said she was totally distraught when she first heard the news of kidnapping of Ankit by Nigerian pirates and was constantly praying for his well-being since then.
