New Delhi, July 26:Cutting across party lines, MP’s in Lok Sabha on Friday demanded strict action against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for his “sexist” remarks on Rama Devi, who was officiating the proceedings while the House was discussing the contentious Triple talaq Bill on Thursday.

Speaker Om Birla said he will convene a meeting of all parties to decide on the future course of action.

The Speaker had allowed MP’s to speak on the matter during Zero Hour on Friday. MP’s from all parties expressed anger at the remarks and termed them as derogatory and insulting.

Union Minister Smriti Irani said Azam Khan had breached the privilege of the House. Had he been someplace else the woman could charge him of sexual harassment at work place, said Irani.

Notably, Rama Devi had herself insisted that the remarks be expunged, which Azam Khan kept insisting were only meant for a “sister whom he loved”.
