Chandigarh, August 30: The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday cleared Justice Ravi Shankar Jha of the Madhya Pradesh High Court for the post of Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The development comes a day after the sitting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court—Justice Krishna Murari—was cleared for elevation to the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Murari had been sworn in at the high court more than a year ago.
Another judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Ajai Lamba, has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
Justice Lamba is the senior-most judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and at present is functioning, on transfer, at the Allahabad High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium said it was of the view that Justice Lamba was suitable in all respects for being appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
The collegium said Justice Jha was a senior puisne Judge from the Madhya Pradesh High Court and was suitable “in all respects” for being appointed as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
