Chandigarh, October 8: It was a triumph of good over evil with giant effigies of demon king Ravana, his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhkarna going up in flames on Dasehra in the tricity.
People in large numbers thronged the venues to witness the effigies, worth several lakhs, turn into ashes.
The Dasehra celebrations were held at around 60 venues in the city. The tallest-ever Ravana (221 ft), that was consigned to the flames in Dhanas, turned out to be a major attraction for residents.
Thousands of people from across the tricity reached Dhanas to witness the Dasehra celebrations.
A similar scene was witnessed at Sector 46 where thousands of people attended the celebrations. People were seen witnessing the effigies being burnt from the rooftop of showrooms in Sector 46.
The celebrations at Sector 34 and Sector 17 also saw a huge presence of visitors.
However, as soon the celebrations concluded, the roads in and around the venues were marred with traffic chaos.
Traffic snarls were witnessed in and around Dhanas. The situation was no better in Sector 46 and the surrounding sectors. The situation was also similar at Sector 34 and the neighbouring sectors.
The police were deployed to regulate traffic. However, it took them almost an hour to get the situation back to normal. Those who preferred to walk up to the venues after parking their vehicles in nearby sectors saved themselves from getting stuck in traffic snarls.
Street vendors, who had put up stalls outside the venues, did brisk business.
