New Delhi, December 18: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Centre on the 59 petitions challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

However, it refused to stay operation of the amended provisions relaxing norms for grant of citizenship to members of persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The Centre has to respond in two weeks. The next hearing will be held on January 22, 2020.
