JKBOSE brings changes in textbooks, syllabi,courses

Jammu, December 18: The J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has changed/revised the textbooks, syllabi and courses of study which will be in practice from the academic session November-December 2019 in case of Kashmir division/winter zone areas of Jammu Division/Union Territory of Ladakh.

In Jammu Division, the three districts — Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar — fall under the winter zone while a few of the areas in the districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua fall under the winter zone. However, in case of summer zone areas of Jammu province, the revised editions, titles and syllabi will be applicable in the summer zone areas of Jammu province from ensuing academic session March-April 2020-21.

Director Academics, JKBOSE, Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer said, “Yes, changes have been made in the syllabus, textbooks and courses. The The textbooks of social science from Class VI to X have been changed with inclusion of history of erstwhile J&K state. Maximum syllabus in these textbooks is as per guidelines of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)”.

Sources said changes had also been made in the textbook of mathematics of Class X wherein all chapters were now based on the NCERT syllabus. Urdu textbook of Class XII and Hindi textbook of Class XI has also been changed. A changed syllabus has also been introduced in the textbooks of Classes IX, X, XI and XII.

The textbooks whose syllabi have been changed include social science (Class IXand X), mathematics (Class X), information practices (Class XI), computer science (class XI and XII, bio-chemistry (Class XI and XII), Hindi (Class XI), Urdu (Class XII), bio-technology (Class XII) and food technology (Class XII).

The question papers for regular/fresh private candidates who have to appear in the annual session scheduled to be held in October-November 2019 in the winter zone areas and in the annual examination to be held in February-March 2021 in the Summer zone areas of Jammu division will be set from the revised/changed syllabi and courses of studies. However, in case of Class XI, the question paper of Hindi subject will be set from Annual Session (Summer Zone) in March-April 2021.

Sources said change in textbooks/syllabus was on the cards post the revocation of Article 370 by the Central Government on August 5, 2019. Various consultations were held before finalising the changed/revised textbooks/syllabus for the classes.
