SC dismisses plea of Nirbhaya’s rape convict Akshay Kumar

New Delhi, December 17: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case convict Akshay Kumar Singh’s petition seeking review of its 2017 verdict upholding death penalty given to him along with three other convicts.

A Bench of Justice R Banumathi, Justice Ashok Bhan and Justice AS Bopanna said the grounds raised in the review petition have already been considered by the court while deciding his appeal.

In the light of parameters of review petitions, it can’t be permitted. Grounds raised by the petitioner has already been considered by the court in earlier judgements, said the top court.

All the issues raised by him has already been considered by the trial court and confirmed by the Delhi High Court and upheld by the top court, said the Bench.
