Conference on ‘Empowering Marginalized through Legal Services’ on June 20

SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today said that J&K High Court in collaboration with National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) is going to organize one-day State-level Conference in Srinagar on “Empowering the Marginalized Through Legal Services”.

He said the maiden conference would be organized at SKICC on 20th June 2018 and the objective of the conference is to create awareness about the availability of legal services for poor and marginalized segments of society.

Justice Magrey, who is also the Chairman of the J&K High Court Legal Services Committee and State Juvenile Justice Committee, said the aim of the conference is to educate down-trodden sections of the society about availing legal help to get benefits from different government schemes, whether from health, education, social welfare schemes.

He said the conference is aimed at making such sections of the society to understand that the benefits availed by them are their rights from the State who framed several schemes through enactment of several laws having constitutional mandate through Legal Services under J&K State Legal Services Authorities Act, 1995 and National Legal Services Authority Act.

He said the Conference will be attended by Senior Supreme Court Judge, Rajan Gogoi, Acting Chief Justice of J&K High Court, J&K High Court Judges, working lawyers, para-legal lawyers, resource persons.

Justice Magrey said that around 500 participants have been identified who are marginalized section of our society being women, children, physically handicapped will be trained for availing benefits from various State and Central Government Schemes. “Para Legal Lawyers and resource persons will train these people in camps being organized in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Kargil,” he added.

He said the event will also follow legal literacy camps in various schools to educate students about Constitution, women rights etc.
