Doda, April 13: A Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir police was killed and another was injured in a militant attack in Tander area of Dachan in Kishtwar district on Monday.
Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tarra said some militants opened fire on the two SPOs on duty, killing one of them and leaving the other critically injured. “Kishtwar SSP Harmeet Singh has left for Tander area in a chopper to assess the situation,” the DC said.
Militants fled the scene with service rifles of the SPOs, he added.
Dachan is a far-flung area in Kishtwar, where people have not been provided mobile facility till date. The police have to rely on wireless messages from their officials deputed in the area.
This is the first attack by militants in Kishtwar district this year.
