Katra, April 17: A team of officials from the wildlife department trapped a leopard in Jammu’s Katra township on Friday even as a search operation has been launched to trace two other wild cats believed to be roaming around in the area.

The officials said the leopard was first seen in the area around 24 hours ago and the team managed to trap it in the wee hours near Asia Chowk, barely a few km from the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Giving details, the officials said the operation was launched after the administration received information about sighting of wild animals near Katra town and on the Vaishno Devi track. “On Friday, we trapped the leopard near Katra. We suspect two more leopards to have strayed into the town,’’ said Block Officer, Wildlife, Manohar Anand.
