Srinagar, April 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Covid-19 death toll has reached six after a man died at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Hospital at Bemina on Saturday.
The 72-year-old man of Qazipora village in Tangmarg in Baramulla district died in the morning after his symptoms for Covid-19 aggravated.
“A Covid-19 patient of Tangmarg died today at our hospital. He was suffering from pneumonia and other respiratory co-morbidities,” said medical superintendent of SKIMS Dr Shifa Deva.
Deva said the patient was referred from Government Medical College Baramulla on April 13. “He had already tested positive for coronavirus at the time of admission,” she said.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded its first death due to Covid-19 on March 25 when a man from Hyderpora locality of Srinagar died of the viral infection.
A 70-year-old man from north Kashmir’s Sopore town died of the viral infection on April 17.
The Covid-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir have continued an upward trend and crossed the 450-mark on Friday.
At least 34 people tested positive for the virus on Friday, a development that led to the union territory’s infection tally to climb to 468 cases with six deaths.
Majority of the Covid-19 positive cases, 411, are from Kashmir while 57 are from Jammu Division.
As per official reports, 65,722 people have been put under observation. As many as 6,162 people are under home quarantine, 340 in hospital isolation and 260 in hospital quarantine. As many as 11,970 people are under home surveillance and 46,985 people have completed surveillance.
According to official data, 11,764 test results were available of which 11,310 tested negative and 468 positive.
At least six peoples have died and 109 recovered from Covid-19. The government has put a ban on public movement in and out of red zones.
