14 shopkeepers challaned for overcharging, profiteering
KISHTWAR, MAY 22: After receiving complaints from the people of Drabshalla that the commodities of daily use are being sold at an exorbitant rates ahead of the Eid festival and on the directions of District Development Commissioner, Naib Tehsildar Drabshalla Mohd Ahsaan today paid a surprise visit of the market of Drabshalla and booked shopkeepers under various sections of law for overcharging and profiteering the customers.
He was accompanied by Tehsil Supplies Officer Drabshalla and other concerned.
During the visit, it was found that many shops were not maintaining the COVID 19 protocol of social distancing, usage of masks and maintenance of hygiene at the place of sale purchase activity.
Furthermore many of the vegetable vendors and shopkeepers dealing with kiryana items, meat , milk and sale of LPG were selling these commodities at an exorbitant rates without proper maintenance and sticking of rate list and thereby fostering the illegal overcharging and profiteering from the customers by availing the opportunity of high demand of these essentials ahead of Eid festival .
Taking strong note of these things the designated officers have challaned the erring shopkeepers for breaking the law and also keeping aside the COVID 19 protocols and have stressed the shopkeepers to maintain hygiene and sanitization measures at these commercial places on priority bases.
