Srinagar, June 8: Two persons, including a CRPF man, died of Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total deaths to 43 in Jammu and Kashmir. Of the total deaths, 38 occurred in Kashmir.

A CRPF man died at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) at Soura, while as a 35-year-old civilian from Khanyar locality of Srinagar died at Chest Disease hospital, officials said.

The CRPF man, who was admitted to SKIMS on June 4, was also suffering from several co-morbidities.

“A CRPF man died at SKIMS after his condition deteriorated drastically today morning,” said a senior doctor.

This is the first Covid-19 death of a CRPF person in Kashmir since the outbreak of the pandemic.

A man, who was injured in a road accident, died on Monday after testing positive for the coronavirus, said Medical Superintendent CD hospital Dr Saleem Tak.

Srinagar district has reported 13 Covid-19 deaths, the highest in any district in J&K, followed by seven in Baramulla, five in Anantnag, four each in Kulgam and Shopian, three in Jammu, two each in Budgam and Kupwara, and one each in Udhampur and Bandipora.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 620 cases on Sunday, the highest single-day coronavirus tally, which included 60 pregnant women, 24 health workers and three prisoners.

Majority of the coronavirus cases have been reported from Kashmir, 3,198, while Jammu has reported 889.
