JAMMU: To create awareness about the importance of voting in a democratic setup and educating students about their voting rights, Directorate of School Education Jammu celebrated the 11th National Voters Day to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, established on 25th January 1950, by organizing different events like debates, declamations, mock polls, drawing and quiz competitions, etc. in schools across the ten districts of Jammu division.
At Directorate Head Office Jammu, all the employees and officials including Sh. H.R.Pakhroo, Joint Director, Sh. Sanjay Bhat, PO, and Jb. Shokat Malik, Jt. Director joined in for a pledge taking ceremony affirming to uphold the democratic traditions of our country encompassing free, fair and peaceful elections. They also pledged to vote in every election fearlessly without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.
Similar pledge taking ceremonies were held across all the ten district headquarters of Jammu Division under the supervision and guidance of the Chief Education Officers of the respective districts.
In schools too the celebrations started with pledge taking ceremonies and then the students were socialized into the democratic traditions through games and other cocurricular activities.
Ms. Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Jammu, in her message said that the activities in schools were designed keeping in view this year’s theme of the National Voters Day – ‘Making our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed’. Highlighting the value of vote, she reminded students, teachers and other officials of their role and duty in a democratic system and exhorted everyone to come forward to create a politically aware society.
