‘INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING’ OBSERVED IN JAMMU DIVISION SCHOOLS

Jammu:  In order to spread awareness about physical and psychological impact of substance abuse, drug overdose deaths and drugs-related problems, Directorate of School Education Jammu observed international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking by organising various events in government schools like administering e-pledge titled ‘ Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs’, painting/drawing competition, debates, elocutions, discussions, skits, nukkad nataks, etc.
These events were organised in all the 10 districts of Jammu division on the directions of Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education Jammu in collaboration with Health as well as Social Welfare Department, various NGOs and respective district administrations.

Pertinently DSEJ is already implementing TOFEI guidelines and other such initiatives of Government of India such as NCPCR- ‘ EIK YUDH NASHE KAY VIRUDH’ etc.

                 Besides this, online weekly programme of Counselling cell DSEJ ‘ Aao Baat Karein ‘was also based on this aspect  in which Ms. Pallavi Singh Program Director JKSPYM NGO was the invited guest who threw light on importance, significance , preventive measures to be taken toward the goal of creating a society that’s free of drug abuse. She also highlighted various Government schemes launched to prevent people from the devastating results of drug menace.

The programme was moderated by  Dr. Romesh Kumar, Counselling Cell, DSEJ, who opined that drug abuse was a mental health issue and by ensuring emotional well being of the students besides engaging them positively through sports and cocurricular activities, the students can be steered away from the deadly menace.
