The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK and the CSIR – Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) jointly organized a two days training workshops for the capacity building of Science teachers from Kathua district in Jammu.
The workshop was held in Govt. Model Hr. Sec. School (Boys) Kathua on 9th and 10th June; and this is the first workshop in the series of total 4 workshops. The next workshops are planned at Katra (12-13 June), Kishtwar (15-16 June) and Anantnag (19-20 June).
Mr Hemant Lagvankar, the recipient of the National Award by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and a key resource person of this training programme said, “The aim of this teacher development programme was to give teachers the new techniques for delivering and engaging concepts in Science effectively. Teachers were introduced to proven active learning techniques that can be applied easily in a science context, helping students to develop their conceptual understanding. Teachers got the opportunity to learn some practical science experiments that could be adapted to be used in any setting, including those with no traditional laboratory facilities”.
Total 47 science teachers from the various Govt. schools participated in this workshop and thoroughly enjoyed the proceedings. They were awarded by the certificate on behalf of RSC and CSIR – IIIM with the hands of Mr Prakash Lal Thapa, Chief Education Officer of Kathua district. On this occasion Mr Thapa urged teachers to take these innovative techniques into the classroom and make Science teaching effective and joyful for the students.
Dr Asha Chaubey a nodal scientist CSIR – IIIM Jigyasa Programme was present as a chief guest. Mr Harpreet Singh from GHS Logate played a key role in coordinating the entire event and he was assisted by Mr Paawan Vivek from HSS, Kathera.
