SUCHETGARH: Congress leader and DDC member from Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today strongly condemned Pakistan for unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian borders, violating the ceasefire agreement.

In this regard, Tony toured the severely shelling affected areas of Sae, Bule Chak, and Devi Chak in Suchetgarh. He expressed strong condemnation for the unprovoked firing by Pakistan and took note of the dire situation on the ground.

Tony extended his heartfelt appreciation for the proactive efforts of the civil administration and the Police Department, giving special recognition to DC Jammu Sachin Kumar and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, who remained vigilant throughout the last night. Additionally, he commended the unwavering dedication of SSP Vinod Kumar and the RS Pura Civil Administration, particularly in their preparedness for medical emergencies and evacuation procedures.

During his visit, Tony focused on the safety and well-being of the affected population and the formulation of an evacuation plan in case relocation becomes necessary, a plan already identified by the district administration.

Highlighting a significant issue, Tony raised concerns about the faulty design of community bunkers, which provide no real safety to the public and have become like graveyards, filled with water, filth, snakes, and other life-threatening insects.

Specifically in Bule Chak, Tony apprised DC Jammu about a list submitted by the local Sarpanch Sarabjit Singh to the District Administration four years ago, which, to date, has seen no action. DC Jammu assured Tony that the reconstruction of bunkers would be prioritized to ensure the safety of the local population.

Tony also noted the erosion of trust in the civil administration due to past administrations’ inaction, providing only superficial relief to residents in border areas who have been tirelessly seeking assistance. He emphasized the importance of addressing pending cases related to firing incidents, dating as far back as 2008, on a priority basis to alleviate the difficulties faced by the affected people.

The Congress leader expressed gratitude to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army for their resolute response to Pakistan’s aggression. He reassured that they could count on support whenever needed.
