Artificial Intelligence: Merits and Demerits Discussed in Zonal Seminar at GHS Palli, Kathua

Kathua, 20-08-2024: A zonal-level seminar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was organized by District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Basohli, at High School Palli, Kathua.Students from various schools in the zone participated in the seminar and shared their perspectives on the merits and demerits of AI.

Sr. Gurnam Singh, the keynote speaker, gave a comprehensive overview of the history of AI. He explained that the term “Artificial Intelligence” was coined by American computer scientist John McCarthy in 1956. He also highlighted the advantages and potential of AI, such as enhanced efficiency, improved decision-making, and the development of new products and services.

Mr. Rajinder Kumar and Mrs Shoba from DIET Basohli expressed gratitude to the teaching faculty of Zone Barnoti for their contributions to the success of the program. They also acknowledged the efforts of Mrs. Prabjyot Kour, Head Mistress of High School Palli, in providing the necessary facilities for the seminar.

During the seminar, students showcased their understanding of AI and its implications for society. Miss Deepika Rajput from GHSS Forelain secured the first position, while Ansh Singh from GHS Palli secured the second position. Both students will represent the zone at the district-level competition.

The participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions about the ethical considerations, job displacement concerns, and privacy issues associated with AI. They recognized the transformative potential of AI while also emphasizing the need to address its potential risks and challenges.

The seminar concluded with a reiteration of the importance of striking a balance between embracing the benefits of AI and mitigating its potential downsides. It encouraged students to continue exploring and contributing to the field of AI, ensuring its responsible and ethical use in the future.
