Youth Washed Away By Flash Floods In Poonch

Poonch, June 29 : A 25-year-old youth was killed due to flash floods caused by incessant rains in Surankote area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The youth got caught in the flash flood in the local nallah at Surankote.

Station House Officer (SHO), Surankote, Mohammad Anzar Mir confirmed the incident to media and said that the body was recovered despite inclement weather.

“The identity of the deceased is being ascertained,” he said, adding that body has been taken to Sub-district hospital Surankote for legal medico formalities.

Earlier, the flood was declared in south Kashmir parts after water level crossed the danger mark of 21 ft at Sangam in Anantnag district on Friday evening.

Mir Muhammad Shahnawaz, chief engineer Irrigation, and Flood control said flood has been declared in south Kashmir.

He said the water level in Jhelum at Sangam has crossed the danger mark of 23.02ft. “At 9 pm, the water level in Ram Munshibagh was 16.23 ft,” he said.
