A batch of 3499 yatris left base camp in Jammu for the cave shrine in Kashmir Himalayas on Tuesday in 114 vehicles.

Two groups of 2262 and 1237 ‘yatris’ left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in the sixth batch for the Kashmir Valley, said an official.

The first group headed for the Pahalgam base camp left at 3:43 am while the other proceeding to Baltal left at 2:45 am.

With the improvement in weather, some 18,000 pilgrims began their journey towards the Amarnath cave on Monday from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.

“Nearly 8000 Amarnath pilgrims started their journey from Baltal towards the cave shrine for darshan on Monday morning. The yatra which was earlier halted by rains is going on smoothly since Sunday,” an official at the Baltal base camp said.
